Here is a sneak peak of FIVE of my must-haves:
The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan
This is a Greek mythology series opener that is a fantastic introduction to the genre for middle school students. Its engaging plot and likable characters make it a hit among young readers. It’s so much fun and introduces them to a whole world of sequels and spin-off series.Uprising, by Margaret Peterson Haddix
This historical fiction novel set in the 1900s tells a gripping story about rights and social justice, culminating on March 25, 1911, with the tragic fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. I cry every time I get to the end. Fun bonus is that students don’t know who survived until the end, and it shocks them!Chomp, by Carl Hiaasen
Chomp is a funny, realistic fiction novel set in South Florida nature. Watch it with a side of Man v. Wild or Survivor!Refugee, by Alan Gratz
This historical fiction novel tells the heart-wrenching stories of refugee kids from different periods in history. The Crossover, by Kwame Alexander
This verse, realistic fiction novel uses basketball as a backdrop to tell a compelling story about family and personal struggle.Non Fiction Bonus: I Am Malala, Young Reader’s Edition, by Malala Yousafzai
